【摘要】:Thistestisusedtodeterminethedegreeofaerobicbiodegradationofpolymericcompoundsutilizedinplasticmaterialsbydeterminingthelevelofrespirationofsuchradiolabeledcarboncompoundstoradiolabeledcarbondioxide.Thetestisdesignedtoutilizethenaturallyoccurringmicrobesinseawaterastheinoculumfortheenrichmentandsubsequentmineralization(biodegradation)ofthetestpolymerusingitasacarbonandenergysourceresultinginacarbondioxideasanendproduct.Thetestmethodrequiresthatthepolymerstobeassayedaresynthesizedusingtheradioisotope,carbon-14,andthatthecompoundorplasticmaterialbeuniformlylabeledwithcarbon-14.Ascontrols,knownbiodegradablecompounds,suchasglucoseorstarch,alsouniformlylabeledwithcarbon-14,areruninordertodeterminethebiologicalactivityofthenaturalpopulation.Theconcentrationofaddedpolymersshallbekeptlowsoasnottocauselimitationbyoxygen,andtheseawaterinoculumisamendedwithnitrogenandphosphoruscompoundstoensurethatgrowthinnotlimitedbythesenutrients.Thesafetyproblemsandregulationsassociatedwithworkingwithradioactivematerialsarenotaddressedinthemethod.Itistheresponsibilityoftheindividualuserstoestablishandensureadherencethepropersafety,health,monitoringandallregulatorypracticesassociatedwiththeuseofradioactivecompounds.ThereisnosimilarorequivalentISOstandard.
