【摘要】:Thepurposeofthesetestsistoobtain,bymeansofsimpleapparatus,reliablevaluesofwatervaportransferthroughpermeableandsemipermeablematerials,expressedinsuitableunits.Thesevaluesareforuseindesign,manufacture,andmarketing.Apermeancevalueobtainedunderonesetoftestconditionsmaynotindicatethevalueunderadifferentsetofconditions.Forthisreason,thetestconditionsshouldbeselectedthatmostcloselyapproachtheconditionsofuse.Whileanysetofconditionsmaybeusedandthoseconditionsreported,standardconditionsthathavebeenusefulareshowninAppendixX1.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationofwatervaportransmission(WVT)ofmaterialsthroughwhichthepassageofwatervapormaybeofimportance,suchaspaper,plasticfilms,othersheetmaterials,fiberboards,gypsumandplasterproducts,woodproducts,andplastics.Thetestmethodsarelimitedtospecimensnotover11/4in.(32mm)inthicknessexceptasprovidedinSection.Twobasicmethods,theDesiccantMethodandtheWaterMethod,areprovidedforthemeasurementofpermeance,andtwovariationsincludeserviceconditionswithonesidewettedandserviceconditionswithlowhumidityononesideandhighhumidityontheother.Agreementshouldnotbeexpectedbetweenresultsobtainedbydifferentmethods.Themethodshouldbeselectedthatmorenearlyapproachestheconditionsofuse.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasthestandard.Withinthetext,theSIunitsareshowninparentheses.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemarenotexactequivalents;thereforeeachsystemmustbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromtwosystemswillresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.Howeverderivedresultscanbeconvertedfromonesystemtootherusingappropriateconversionfactors(seeTable1).1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
